What are dental implants?

Dental implants provide a lasting solution for missing, damaged, or worn teeth.

Each implant is made from high-grade titanium and securely anchored to the jawbone, acting as a strong and stable replacement for the natural tooth root. A custom-crafted porcelain crown or zirconia bridge is then placed on top, creating a natural-looking, durable smile that feels and functions just like real teeth.

Benefits of Dental Implants

Dental implants offer many unique benefits:

Replacing missing or broken teeth

Missing, broken or wobbly teeth can make it difficult to eat and also affect your confidence when speaking and smiling. Dental implants offer the gold standard solution to replace the teeth.

Same day implants to replace teeth

For added convenience dental implants can replace missing teeth on the same day to enable you to leave with an enhanced smile on the same day.

Loose Dentures

Removable loose dentures can be uncomfortable, awkward and embarrassing. Dental implants will let you smile more confidently again and eat the foods you love without having anything removable in your mouth as they are permanently fixed into the mouth.

Dental implants, step-by-step

1. Request a consultation

Click the link, fill your details into our form and one of our friendly team members will be in touch soon to book your consultation and discuss your smile goals.

2. Schedule an in-practice consultation

At your in-person visit to our practice, you will have a complete dental examination. We will take all the digital records needed to plan your dental implant treatment and then present you with a full treatment plan and review your payment options. If you decide to pursue treatment, we will schedule the appointment to place your implant.

We use the latest dental implant technology including the Cadent iTero Intra-Oral Scanner & Digital Impression System and CBCT (3D) imaging to capture accurate images and plan your treatment.

3. Implant placement

Placing your dental implant is a brief and minimally invasive surgical procedure. Dr Ahad will numb the implant site with a local anaesthetic, drill a small hole then place the implant screw. The site will then be left to heal.

4. Healing

Healing is the most crucial phase of the dental implant process. This is the time when the bone in your jaw will heal around and fuse with the implant screw in a natural process called osseointegration. It can take three to nine months for your implant to integrate with the bone, and it cannot serve as a fully functioning tooth until that happens. Once your healing process is complete, your implant will be ready for restoration.

5. Restoration planning

We will take a digital scan of your implant to help us design your restoration. There are no messy dental impressions. We will place a temporary ‘tooth’, or scan body, in the implant site, and this will be the guide that helps the Straumann scanner accurately capture the position of your new restoration. After scanning your mouth, we will remove this guide and then schedule the appointment where you will receive your new implant crown or bridge.

6. Restoration placement

At your final appointment, Dr. Ahad will fix your permanent restoration (one or more false teeth) to your implant abutment. They will check the fit to ensure it functions comfortably, and you will leave with a brand new smile.

Dental Implants FAQs

Who may be in need of a dental implant?

Implants are ideal for patients missing one or more teeth who have good general health and sufficient jawbone density. Your dentist will assess bone quality and overall oral health.

Replacing missing teeth helps preserve surrounding bone, maintain bite function, and prevent adjacent teeth from shifting. Implants offer a long‑term, natural‑looking solution.

Most patients report little to no pain during the procedure thanks to local anaesthetic. Post‑operative discomfort is usually mild and managed easily with pain relief.

Maintain excellent oral hygiene by brushing twice daily and flossing around the implant. Regular hygiene visits and check‑ups will ensure the implant remains healthy.

With proper care, dental implants can last 20 years or more. Regular dental visits and good home maintenance are key to their longevity.

Implant costs vary but typically range from £3,000 per tooth, depending on the complexity and any additional procedures like bone grafting.

Yes, alternatives include bridges and removable dentures. Your dentist will explain the pros and cons of each to help you make an informed choice.

For nervous patients

We are ready to help. Dental anxiety is a very common issue, but it does not have to prevent you from getting the treatment you need. We can provide you with gentle dental sedation on-site at our practice to help you relax during your treatment.
