Your dental questions answered

How often should I have a routine dental check‑up?

We recommend a routine check‑up every six months for most adults. This allows us to monitor your oral health, clean hard‑to‑reach areas, and identify any early signs of decay or gum disease.

Your dentist will assess your teeth, gums, and soft tissues; and review your oral hygiene routine. We may also take X‑rays to check for hidden issues.

Modern digital X‑rays use very low radiation levels. Most patients only need X‑rays every 1–2 years, or as clinically indicated to monitor decay, root health, and bone levels.

Our practice plan covers two hygiene appointments, two dental health examinations, and a set number of digital X‑rays per year. Members also receive discounts on most treatments.

You can join during any visit by completing our registration form. We’re certain you’ll love being on our plan, which is why we offer the ability to cancel at anytime. Plans start from £21.99 per month for adults.

Yes, members benefit from 10% off many routine treatments, including fillings, crowns, and other necessary treatments.

Brush twice daily with fluoride toothpaste, floss or use a water flosser daily, and limit sugary snacks and drinks. If you have any concerns, contact us at any time.

Simply call our reception or complete the online registration form on our website. We’ll book your first check‑up and welcome you to Aura Dentistry.

Am I a suitable candidate for Invisalign clear aligners?

Invisalign can correct a wide range of mild to moderate alignment issues. Your dentist will conduct a thorough assessment to determine suitability based on your bite and oral health.

Treatment typically ranges from 4 to 12 months, depending on the complexity of your case and how consistently you wear your aligners.

Prices vary by case complexity but generally start around £4,000. We offer flexible finance plans to spread the cost over affordable monthly payments.

You may experience mild pressure or discomfort when switching trays, but this typically subsides within a few days. Over‑the‑counter pain relief can help with any soreness.

For optimal results, wear your aligners for 22 hours per day, removing them only for eating, drinking (except water), and cleaning.

Rinse your aligners daily, brush them gently with a soft toothbrush and water, and soak them in Invisalign cleaning crystals or a denture cleaner once a week.

We typically schedule review visits every 6–12 weeks to monitor progress and provide your next sets of trays.

Once treatment is complete, you’ll need to wear retainers—usually nightly—to prevent teeth from shifting back. Maintain good oral hygiene and attend annual check‑ups.

Who may be in need of a dental implant?

Implants are ideal for patients missing one or more teeth who have good general health and sufficient jawbone density. Your dentist will assess bone quality and overall oral health.

Replacing missing teeth helps preserve surrounding bone, maintain bite function, and prevent adjacent teeth from shifting. Implants offer a long‑term, natural‑looking solution.

Most patients report little to no pain during the procedure thanks to local anaesthetic. Post‑operative discomfort is usually mild and managed easily with pain relief.

Maintain excellent oral hygiene by brushing twice daily and flossing around the implant. Regular hygiene visits and check‑ups will ensure the implant remains healthy.

With proper care, dental implants can last 20 years or more. Regular dental visits and good home maintenance are key to their longevity.

Implant costs vary but typically range from £3,000 per tooth, depending on the complexity and any additional procedures like bone grafting.

Yes, alternatives include bridges and removable dentures. Your dentist will explain the pros and cons of each to help you make an informed choice.

What is composite bonding and how does it work?

Composite bonding uses tooth‑coloured resin to repair chips, close gaps, or reshape teeth. The resin is applied, sculpted, and cured with a special light for an immediate, natural finish.

Bonding can address minor chips, cracks, gaps between teeth, and small misalignments. It’s ideal for quick, conservative improvements.

Most patients experience no pain. Bonding usually requires minimal or no enamel removal, so anaesthetic is rarely needed.

Each tooth typically takes 30–60 minutes. You can often complete a small bonding case in a single visit.

Composite bonding lasts 5–7 years on average before needing touch‑ups or replacement, depending on your oral habits.

Bonding material can pick up stains from coffee, tea, or smoking. Avoid staining foods and drinks, and maintain good brushing habits.

Yes, damaged bonding can usually be repaired easily during a short follow‑up appointment.

Continue brushing twice daily, flossing, and attending regular hygiene visits. Avoid biting hard objects or using teeth as tools.

Bonding is less invasive, quicker, and more affordable but may stain and wear faster. Veneers offer greater durability and stain resistance but require more enamel removal.

Is teeth whitening safe for my enamel?

Professional whitening uses calibrated peroxide concentrations that are safe when applied by our trained team. We protect your enamel and soft tissues throughout the process.

Some patients experience mild, temporary sensitivity. This typically resolves within a few days and can be managed with desensitizing toothpaste.

In‑office whitening appointments usually last 60–90 minutes, including preparation, application, and post‑treatment fluoride.

For a full in‑office treatment, expect one appointment. At‑home kits we provide are used daily for up to two weeks for gradual results.

Results can last 6–12 months, depending on your diet and oral habits. Occasional top‑up treatments help maintain your shade.

Avoid staining substances like red wine, coffee, tea, and dark berries for at least 48 hours post‑treatment to preserve your results.

Yes, whitening treatments are eligible for our practice plan discounts and can be spread over monthly payments like other cosmetic services.
